“Pulsation, that is, alternating expansion and contraction, is a basic characteristic of the orgone energy. In the realm of the living, it functions specifically as ‘biological energy.’"
—Wilhelm Reich
If you use any search engine with AI to search for “Is there any scientific evidence for orgone energy,” you’re going to get a result that says something like, “No, there isn’t any empirical evidence for orgone energy.”
And of course, you should always trust AI and search results at first glance because AI knows everything, right? Just kidding! AI, in this case, is incorrect.
In truth, Wilhelm Reich’s original bion experiments,1 through which he eventually discovered the existence of a life force he called orgone, have been replicated several times.
Additionally, there are the countless anecdotal reports over the last fifty years of researchers and enthusiasts who have replicated Reich’s orgone accumulator or have built their own devices (including the so-called orgonite devices) that purportedly emit orgone energy.
As a full-time researcher and developer in subtle energy, I’ve examined various devices over the years claiming to emit orgone energy, and I can tell you that most of these devices definitely emitted subtle energy.
Here’s what I found:
When dowsed (using the physical dowsing method and tools of Dr. Ibrahim Karim), some of the devices I investigated (which specifically claimed to be associated with orgone) emitted all twelve “colors” originally designated by the French school of Radiesthesia.
These colors are: Black, Infrared, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet, Ultraviolet, White and Negative Green.
Each “color” is associated with a specific gradation of energy with corresponding qualities.
The Black, White and Negative Green colors were associated with nonlocal effects similar to those of quantum entanglement.
The overall emanation, when sufficiently amplified, was deeply, physically invigorating.
Although my report here is anecdotal and unconventional, in my experience, this kind of evidence has merit. After 15 years of active experimental research, the existence of subtle energy, for me, is self-apparent.
I can understand, however, if you might find my anecdotal report lacking.
As such, here are five scientific studies supporting the existence of orgone energy.

The Scientific Evidence for Orgone Energy
Study #1: Ultrastructural and light microscopy analysis of SAPA bions formation and growth in vitro2
Conducted by Prof. Ignacio Ochoa Pacheco (Neurobiologist) 2000-2001.
The study’s goal was to observe bion formation in seawater samples treated with potassium chloride (KCl) and other chemicals, using advanced microscopy and analytical techniques to document their appearance, behavior, and composition. It emphasizes a controlled, scientific approach to verify Reich’s claims.
Pacheco used seawater from the Pacific Ocean, collected near Florence, Oregon, as the primary material, and prepared samples in two main ways:
Control Samples: These were untreated seawater samples, used for comparison to see what naturally occurs without any added chemicals.
Experimental Samples: These were seawater samples treated with various chemicals to induce bion formation, following Reich’s protocols. The main chemical used was potassium chloride, but some samples also included sodium chloride, calcium chloride, or sodium hydroxide.
The preparation process involved filtering the seawater, mixing it with chemicals in specific ratios, heating some of the mixtures to extreme temperatures, and incubating samples at room temperature.
Pacheco used light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray microanalysis to examine the incubated samples.
“All the structures observed show morphological and kinetic characteristics of complex living organisms: they are surrounded by a thick membrane structure containing a protoplasm, are capable of growth and division, and are capable of movement. Contrary to what would be expected, Sx cultures show an increasingly amount of newly formed protein, as shown by the Bradford curve. These proteins must have been created de novo, since the method of incineration and fractional sterilization destroy or denaturalizes completely all bio-componets in the media. Although this synthesis can not be understood by appealing to conventional scientific knowledge, orgonomy explains this synthesis de novo in the Sx cultures by primary formation process, that is biosynthesis of bio-components from primeval cosmic orgone energy.”
—Prof. Ignacio Ochoa Pacheco
Results
Vesicles, unusual structures and distinct crystalline arrangements were seen and documented in the experimental samples but not in the control samples.
In conclusion, Pacheco wrote:
“The fact that all the structures observed assemble and grow in vitro when media is submitted to extreme thermal conditions which usually kill other living organisms, even the most heat resistant thermophyles and spores, indicates a process of continual creation in the evolution of species in the microscopic realm, a process that may show some parallels with the evolution and adaptation of multicellular organisms.”
Study #2: Water Evaporation Inside the Orgone Accumulator3
Conducted by James DeMeo, Ph.D. in 1976 (and published in 1980).
DeMeo’s experiments aimed to show that orgone energy influenced water evaporation differently than ordinary conditions, and that this effect changed with weather conditions like sunny or rainy days.
The research was conducted at the Elsworth F. Baker Oranur Research Laboratory in Ottsville, Pennsylvania.
DeMeo set up a controlled experiment to compare water evaporation in different enclosures. He used three cubical enclosures:
Ten-fold orgone accumulator: Made of steel and plastic, designed to strongly concentrate orgone energy.
One-fold orgone accumulator: Also made of steel and plastic, but with a weaker orgone concentration.
Control enclosure: Made of cardboard and plastic, not designed to concentrate orgone energy.
All enclosures were kept outdoors on a shaded porch to ensure they experienced the same environmental conditions.
The amount of water that evaporated from each vessel was measured daily using a precise scale (Ohaus model 310 dial-o-gram, accurate to 0.01 gram).
DeMeo compared the evaporation data to local weather patterns, including precipitation, cloud cover, relative humidity (RH), and temperature, collected from weather stations in Allentown and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The setup allowed DeMeo to isolate the effect of orgone energy by comparing evaporation in the orgone accumulators to the control, while also tracking how weather influenced the results.
Results
The experiments showed that orgone accumulators affected water evaporation differently than the control, and this effect varied with weather conditions.
On sunny days, when Reich’s theory suggests orgone energy is strongest at the Earth’s surface, the orgone accumulators (especially the ten-fold orac) suppressed water evaporation compared to the control. Less water evaporated from vessels inside the accumulators.
On rainy or overcast days, when orgone energy is believed to be weaker at the surface (and stronger in clouds), evaporation rates in the accumulators and the control were nearly the same.
“It would seem that the EVo-EV measurement is another experimental verification of the functioning of the orgone energy accumulator and the existence of the orgone continuum.”

Study #3: Experimental Confirmation of the Reich Orgone Accumulator Thermal Anomaly4
Conducted by James DeMeo, Ph.D. in 2010.
This study reports DeMeo’s experiments to measure a small temperature difference (the To-T effect) between the inside of an orgone accumulator (ORAC) and a control enclosure that does not concentrate orgone energy.
Reich’s theory suggests that orgone energy, a pulsating, space-filling life force, creates this heat through friction when concentrated inside the ORAC.
DeMeo’s goal was to replicate Reich’s observations under controlled conditions, using highly sensitive equipment to rule out classical explanations like heat convection or solar radiation.
The To-T effect is a small, spontaneous temperature increase inside the ORAC compared to a control, with no known classical energy source.
DeMeo began studying this phenomenon around 1970 but conducted rigorous experiments starting in 2000, refining methods over time to achieve consistent results.
DeMeo tested various ORAC designs (e.g., cones, different sizes) and measurement tools (mercury thermometers, thermocouples) before settling on high-precision thermistors and a 10 cm cubical ORAC.
The experiments were conducted in a specially designed outdoor shelter to ensure optimal conditions.
Reich’s Original Device
Reich built metal-lined boxes to study this energy, noticing they amplified bion radiation.
Surprisingly, these boxes showed similar effects even without bions, leading Reich to conclude that orgone energy filled the atmosphere.
He invented the ORAC to concentrate this energy for study and medical use.
The ORAC has been used to treat biopathies, increase plant growth, and extend the lifespan of cancer mice, though these claims are controversial outside orgonomy.
Other experiments by Reich and followers showed ORACs creating electrical charges, charging vacuum tubes, and increasing Geiger-Müller radiation counts. DeMeo replicated some of these, including water evaporation suppression.
Results
Dry conditions showed To-T values 4–5 times higher than wet conditions, and Adjusted To-T values 16–20 times higher.
The ORAC’s temperature peaked at solar noon, not the hottest time of day (3–4 PM), and dipped near midnight, not the coldest time (5–6 AM), suggesting a non-thermal, solar-related influence.
The To-T effect confirms Reich’s orgone energy theory, as the ORAC consistently showed higher temperatures under optimal conditions.
The control enclosure showed no such anomaly.
These findings defy classical thermodynamics because the ORAC’s metal components should reflect infrared heat, making it cooler than the Control during the day. Instead, it was warmer, suggesting an anomalous heat source.
The To-T peaked at solar noon, not the hottest time, indicating a response to the Sun’s position rather than surface heating.
The absence of To-T in wet conditions supports Reich’s claim that orgone energy is bound by water, rendering the ORAC ineffective.
“While the magnitudes of the To-T effect demonstrated here are small, in only tenths of a degree, they are still consistent and up to 20 times greater than what classical thermodynamics alone will produce in the same apparatus . . . . To better understand this thermal anomaly, we must give credence to Reich’s original theories on the matter, and likewise consult the voices of those radical scientists of the 20th Century whose work provides independent support for this more dynamic view of nature.”
—James DeMeo, Ph.D.
Study #4: A Preliminary Study of the Reich Orgone Accumulator Effects on Human Physiology5
Conducted by Alberto Mazzocchi, M.D. in 2010.
The study investigated whether sitting in an ORAC for 45 minutes caused measurable changes in the body, specifically in body temperature and skin electrical resistance at specific points called Electro Permeable Points (EPP).
The study used the Ryodoraku technique, developed by Dr. Yoshio Nakatami in 1950, to measure skin electrical resistance at EPP, which correspond to acupuncture meridians in Chinese Medicine.
These points, also called Active Points or Ryodoten, have lower electrical resistance than surrounding skin, indicating higher conductivity.
The technique is well-suited to study ORAC effects because it provides objective data on physiological changes, potentially linking orgone energy to the chi of acupuncture.
The study involved 20 healthy participants who sat in a human-sized ORAC for 45 minutes in September and October 2008. The room temperature was 16–18°C, and participants wore all-cotton clothing to avoid interference with orgone energy.
Measurements using a mercury thermometer and the Ryodoraku test were taken before and after each ORAC session.
Results
Body Temperature:
The average body temperature increased by 0.242°C after ORAC exposure.
Statistical analysis showed this increase was significant (p=0.006), meaning it’s unlikely to be due to chance.
Ryodoraku Measurements:
A total of 480 EPP values (24 per participant) were measured before and after ORAC exposure.
Post-ORAC values were lower than pre-ORAC values, indicating decreased skin resistance (increased conductivity).
The ORAC’s effects suggest a real physiological response, likely due to parasympathetic stimulation.
“The results of the present study, which was performed on a limited cohort of patients, indicates an increase in the body temperature and a modification of the skin resistance in the electro permeable points. This could be caused by activation of the parasympathetic system and possibly by an action of the neuro-endocrine system. The orgone energy accumulator device conceived by Reich may have a significant effect on the human organism.”

Study #5: Studies on 'Life-Energy' by means of a Quantitative Dowsing Method: III. Remote transmission of life energy by means of macroscopic quantum entanglement6
Conducted by Roger Taylor, Ph.D. in 2014.
Taylor’s study explores the concept of life-energy (also called orgone), proposing that it can be transmitted remotely using pairs of identical images or human hair samples, potentially through a phenomenon called macroscopic quantum entanglement.
Taylor uses a dowsing method to measure this energy, supported by objective experiments involving seedling growth and UV spectroscopy of water.
The study used a strong source of orgone (i.e., an orgonite device) to support stable, long-distance entanglement.
He used three main experimental approaches: dowsing with images and hair, seedling growth experiments, and UV spectroscopy of water.
He created a random glyph, copied it, placed one copy under orgonite, and dowsed the other glyph 30 meters away.
Results
The results showed significant correlations in detected energy levels between objects distantly spaced. In fact, entanglement effects were detected as far as across the Atlantic Ocean!
“In that it promotes growth of seedlings, such a field can be described as ‘life-energy’. That is: an influence promoting order, in contrast to the usual concept of energy which is entropic, and promotes disorder. The fact that such a field can bring about increase of order in the vicinity of the source deserves more attention, both theoretical and practical, than it currently gets from the scientific world.”
